Attendance Target
In 2026, the government's target is that 80% of all learners achieve an attendance rate of 90% or over. We know that school attendance is directly linked to the best possible learning outcomes.
Here is our Attendance Management Plan which outlines our policies and procedures for achieving this target.
Absence
When your child is going to be away from school for any reason, please advise us via the Hero App. You will need to provide a reason for your child’s absence, which is recorded with the Ministry of Education. If your child is away for multiple days, please notify the school each day they are away.
If your child is going to be absent for a pre-planned reason such as a holiday, please inform the school office by email in advance of the dates they will be away. Extended absences for holidays or other reasons must be notified in writing. We are unable to approve absences due to travel or holidays, as legislation states that every child enrolled at a registered New Zealand school must attend each day the school is open. We have to follow the Ministry of Education guidelines, and your child's attendance records and reports will show their absence due to travel or holidays, as explained, but will be considered unjustified. Please note that any absence of 20+ days may impact a learner's enrolment at school.
If your child is absent due to illness for three days or more, please provide a doctor’s certificate.
We use the Hero app and text systems to contact parents when a child is absent and the school has not been notified of this. We aim for this to go out by 9.30 in the morning. Please use the Hero app to inform us of your child’s absence.
