Nau mai, haere mai.

Te Kura Whakatipu o Kawarau opened to learners in February 2022.

We are a Year 0 - 8 primary school located in the stunning Hanley’s Farm, Queenstown, New Zealand.

We are delighted to welcome you to our school website, which will grow and develop alongside our beautiful kura.

Our Name - Te Kura Whakatipu o Kawarau

The story begins with the Chief Kawarau transforming into the maunga (Remarkable mountain range) and watching over Te Kura Whakatipu o Kawarau, bestowing his mana onto the Kawarau awa (river).

This forms our identity and is a crucial part of the school carrying its sacred name gifted to our Kura by the Aparima Runaka.

Te Kura - school, education, learning gathering

Whakatipu - causing learning and growth to happen (nourish)

o Kawarau - our maunga and the river at its feet, named after an esteemed chief. Our kura is under the cloak of this mountain.

Our Vision

At our place our staff, whānau, community and board GATHER to support our students and their learning.

At our place all our students LEARN through innovative and inspiring teaching and learning in an environment that supports students’ wellbeing and engagement.

At our place all our students and staff GROW with courage to realise their potential academically, culturally, physically and emotionally.

Our Values

Our shared values are the important qualities we try to live by and show in the ways we go about our work, and the relationships we have with others, and our environment.

At Te Kura Whakatipu o Kawarau we believe that Whanaungatanga is essential to gather, learn and grow. This is developed through relationships, equity and authentic connections with our place. This leads to Kotahitanga within our community and creates an environment that allows Manaakitanga, for our tamariki (children) to thrive.

  • Feeling included, respected and celebrated as an individual and member of our diverse community.

He tangata kē koutou, he tangata kē mātou, engari i tēnei wā, tātou e.

You are diverse, we are diverse, but in the final analysis we all belong.

  • Working together towards our shared purpose to gather, learn and grow.

Ma te kotahitanga e whai kaha ai tātau.

    In unity, we have strength.

  • Acknowledging, empowering and encouraging growth within our community.

    Whāngaia ka tupu, ka puawai.

That which is nurtured, blossoms, grows.
