Governance

The Te Kura Whakatipu o Kawarau Board is responsible for the governance of our school and provides strategic leadership for our school.  Our school principal is the board’s chief executive in relation to the control and management of our school.

The Ministry of Education requires schools to have a board to ensure that the interests of the wider school community are represented.  Board members are generally elected for a three-year term.

The board works in partnership with the community, principal, teachers, support staff, and the Ministry of Education to ensure the best possible outcomes for all our learners.  The board is responsible and accountable for:

  • Monitoring and evaluating learner progress and achievement

  • Setting the vision and strategic direction of our school in consultation with our community

  • Ensuring our school complies with legal and policy requirements

  • Fulfilling the intent of Te Tiriti o Waitangi by valuing and reflecting New Zealand’s dual cultural heritage

  • Overseeing the management of staff, property, finances, curriculum and administration

In the board's decision-making process, all members take into account all relevant information and what is in the best interests of all learners.

Parents and whānau are welcome to attend board meetings, held monthly at the school.  Check the school calendar or contact the school office for meeting dates.  Board minutes are available upon request to the school office.
